Some of you guys may already know this, but I figured out that if you hold down the 'diamond' button (the button that repeats the last nav instruction), you can mute the voice instructions. Holding it down again enables the instructions.
A mute icon shows up in the navigation screen (similiar to the mute for the radio) .

This is the same on other BMW's... In general the menu option OR the key that repeats the last instruction, IF HELD down will mute the voice guideance.

I agree that it's the same as in previous models. The one thing that's different and improved is that the E60 remembers the setting permanently (even after turning the car off) where the E39 nav mute was only for that destination.
