I live in the Toronto GTA area and when I travel just north of the city, Maple or Bel fountain etc, I get " You are entering an automobile restricted zone from the navigation system: despite that these are not automobile restricted areas.

I asked navtech as to what this means and they redirected me to ask BMW as they would not answer the question.

Does anyone know what this means when the areas I go in are definitely not automobile restricted areas.

I've heard the car say "your destination is in a vehicle-restricted area" but never an "automobile restricted zone." Maybe that's something local to your market.

+1 .. it's something like that and a localized POI (Point of interest). I've traveled in one or two residential areas in Virginia and that alert comes up once in a while where parking areas are restricted to property owners/residents. I ignore it.

Actually it's EXACTLY like that - I hear it whenever I point the satnav to my home address (thanks to the gatehouse at the edge of the high-rise condo property). I don't even notice it any more but I hear it a few times a week.
