"The top speed may be limited, but with the speedometer reaching all the way to 205 mph, the mind conjures intriguing possibilities." This is taken directly from BMW's site about the new M6. I think its interesting they are suggesting removing the limiter...

bmw is cool.

BMW folks ARE cool. they know what we want. They know 150 MPH just won't cut it when the car can do SOOOOO much more....

It's great to see them embrace us instead of straightarming us like so many other auto makers...

That's great for Europe.

For me, any top speed over about 120 has no use.

But I agree that I like their attitude

You've got to be kidding. If you're in So Cal, you get rear ended if you go less than 80. Long stretches of I-5 or I-15 are great for getting her over 120 for a few seconds at least....

Anyhow, I can't afford the ticket so I pretty much just dream of the autobahn......

Yep, BMW has announced that at least in Europe that they will remove the limiter for a price at the factory for the Ms (5 and 6) and/or allow BMW dealers to do so (at least in the case of the UK). The three German mfrs of Audi, BMW and MB also announced that they are withdrawing their voluntary application of speed limiting. Not sure how this will impact these models in the US.

FWIW, the 5th Gear video review of the M5 claims the car will do 200 mph.

Excuse me while I pick-up my jaw from the floor.

Imagine seeing a sedan drive by you on the freeway doing >180mph.
