Good stuff.
I always thought the logo was in reference to the checkered scheme of the Bavarian flag and had nothing to do with the image of a spinning propeller even though they were originally renowned for making aircraft engines.

Its ironic that BMW now owns Rolls Royce. During World War II these two companies aircraft engines went head to head in aerial combat. BMW made the engine for the Focke Wulf 190 and Rolls Royce produced the Merlin which was in the Hawker Hurricane, Spitfire and later models of the American P-51 Mustang.
