Hi - just had a call from my dealer, my car needs to go in for a "High Pressure Pump" replacement. They're going to upgrade the i-drive at the same time too.

Courtesy car is a Mini convertible - I hope Mrs Shiny doesn't fall in love with it and decide she needs one for Christmas!

what is a High Pressure pump ?

also, I had a mini for a loaner while my car was in service. Very nice and the wife loved it - not the convertable though!

To be honest I have no idea - something to do with the cooling/oil/fuel I imagine. Perhaps someone more technical on this forum can let us know!

I think you are talking about the pump that pressurise the air/diesel mix in the combustion chamber. If I remember well, the level is something like 1600bars. I don't know exactly what could be a consequence of a deficiency of this pump but I suppose that the engine simply won't work anymore if the pressure is not high enough to obtain the desired self-combustion...

It is the pump that pressurises the fuel rail.
