Someone here once gave me a suggestion about the warranty that I had inquired about. The way I see it, if you get you will probably never need it or at least not have $4500.00 worth of repairs in the time span. However, if you don't then you will find yourself needing it and wishing you had made that purchase. My reasoning was, that i put too many miles on a car too quickly and my risk of a major problem was reduced because of this. Had I added miles more slowly then I would say over time my risks would higher just for the time factor alone and perrhaps it would pay off.. So this is decission that YOU will have to make and live with. I've had my 535 for four years and to hear that you should get warranty because it's a 535 and the known problems is nonsense. First of all, the HPFP is covered for 10 years or 110,000 miles. This is the only consistent reocurring problem that these cars have had. The only problems I personally have had was this, which was repaired by BMW and a low pressure sensor and a water pump. sensor cost me 400.00 and the pump and themostat cost me 650.00 and I would have been out of that warranty by now and wasted over $3000.00. Maybe put that money in a savings account and don't touch it until you need it. But lets be clear though, a major repair could set you back very quickly and the costs could run up just a s fast to well over what that warranty costs. It's nothing more than a gamble, just like when the insurance company sells you the warranty...

there is no point in buying a warranty that is not covering every single last thing on the car like you get with your factory 4 yr 50k (im a finance manager at a dealership) there is too much grey area in non exclusionary warranties.. Let me repeat that .. the warranty you want is an exclusionary policy ie: it lists what is not covered therefore all else is covered. These are typically called "bumper to bumper" or "platimum" or " like new manuf warranties"

This is what you want and if you were wondering is buying a warranty a good idea ? well i work in the business i bought an 08 550i with 19,000 miles on it and i bought a warranty. best money spent imo ive seen what hundreds of these audia mercs bimmers cost to fix when we trade for them and the majority are wholesaled because they are too expensive to fix right and still sell for market value.

@Dishoom et al., Thanks guys for the info and advices. After shopping around, I decided on 7y/100k BMW warranty. I was able to get $650 off from the retails price ($5K) from a NH dealer.

Partially I did that because I got a check engine light on just 200 miles before the warranty ends. The car is in the BMW service now. I'll keep you posted on the repairs history.

Hi all first post here . Just bought an 04 545 about 2 months ago . I got it from a Euro car dealer and bought a 3rd party warranty . I get it back tomorrow from the shop . Here is what they did at no cost to me valve cover gaskets, timing cover gaskets, alternator bracket gasket, mass air flow sensor, water pump, famous coolant pipe and new battery along with some other small things . The warranty is from C.A.R.S . I was amazed by this and warranty paid for itself and more already .

The vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty. Is it possible to buy a BMW extended warranty for this car? Or are only new or certified cars are eligible?

Do I need to bother with extended warranty or E60 at all?

Thanks for any hints and thoughts.

Alex, I just bought a 2010 535i from a Toyota dealer (trade in) and had the same question. Check this out..DO THIS FIRST..!!! I walked into my hometown BMW dealer asking about buying an ext warranty. It's about 2800.00. BUT, when your there, MAKE SURE THE CAR U BOUGHT DOESNT HAVE ONE ALREADY...!!!! Mine did to my surprise... The Toyota dealer has no way in telling. Hand the BMW dealer ur key, tell them you just bought it 3rd party and ask them to print out a profile/history sheet. They take your key, insert it into a special machine and it tells all the history of your car. Services, recalls, any problems, and if it has an ext warranty. Ext warranties stay with the car, not the buyer. It saved me 2800.00...!!!!

Default Good Idea

+1 on the decision to purchase the warranty. Recently purchased a 2010 535 xi with 54,000 miles. Put new wheels and tires on it and have had a front wheel shimmy. I went to have the tires road force balanced and the shop pointed out my control arm bushings were leaking. I took the car to my local dealer and they repaired that and found a valve cover leak. Warranty cost was 1695 (Route 66) covered repair 1800, peace of mind, priceless!

@SlvrBmr545 - Just curious, how much did you pay for 10y.o. 545 and what was the mileage on the car? And of course, how much was the warranty? I have a felling that the numbers are comparable
