Its the same situation in India too. I recently got the LCI 525d and paid over $110,000 USD , while the 530i cost $ 120,000. Although BMW has an assembly plant here, it feels shitty to pay more than the price of an M5 for a 525d(But the car does come fully loaded with Dakota leather,Xenon lamps,Run Flats, etc)
And believe it or not, there is a looooong wait list for the 5 series....BMW India had a target of 1000 cars this year being their first, they were well over 1000 cars in 6 months itself (3 series + 5 series) Mercedes is facing stiff competition for the first time...although they are price around the same as BMW , they do not provide half the features that come standard on the BMWs.

But good to read BMW does better than MB(Lot of people's favorite is/was M

costs $160.000 here in Norway, stripped.
thats due to wrong taxation, they tax the horsepower and weight instead of the milage.
They have some tax on co2 but too little if you ask me.

Like any country there are rich and poor....
besides BMW was never designed for the middle-class. It has always been a luxury vehicle....
Toyota, Honda is middle-class

Wouldn't It be a lot cheaper to buy the car elsewhere (U.S. or wherever you want) and then import it? The 550i here in the US starts at $58,500 waaaaaay cheaper!

Like any country there are rich and poor...I don't quite get what your trying to say here ? I hope its not a racist comment.... besides BMW was never designed for the middle-class. It has always been a luxury vehicle.... Toyota, Honda is middle-class
54% of the Indian population has an income level of less than $2000 per year (2007 McKinsey Consulting report), hence it is interesting that basic BMW's are selling for $120,000.
And there are many BMW's that were designed for the "middle class" section of the market. In fact, there are quite a few entry level options as well, such as the 1 Series or basic 3 series. Did you know that BMW sells some very small economy models like the 318i?
A true pure luxury brand would be Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Rolls Royce...etc. BMW is a great brand but it is not an exclusive "upper class" brand.

How is that a racist comment? Do you honestly think all countries have the same economic and social demographic structure? This has nothing to do with race, these are basic economic facts.
