My Ride: BMW E61 530D touring 2004, black metallic, 18" Wheels, 245-40 18 tyres, heated front leather grey confort seats, profissional nav system, PDC, panoramic Sunroof, directional bi-xenon lights, auto dim mirrors, rain sensor, run on flat tyres, normal radio, voice command system, 6 manual gearbox, light package, wood inserts, rear windows sun protections, etc...
Question

Hi all, I need help to solve this one!

My car is a E61 2004 530d and since I bought it 2 months ago I'm wondering why I do have in the two front grill the same opening and closing system as on the new models that are coming with efficient dynamics, they are almost always closed and they only open when the engine is warmer! Why do my car have this? Could the previous owner ask for it as one extra accessory?

Best Rgds

This has been discussed one million of times before, the new ones at least the LCI 530d doesn't have them, my old 2005 530d had them, so I don't think it has anything with efficient driving to do.

I didn't say that is a driving thing, I'm speaking about BMW Efficients Dynamics that is now implemented in all BMW production cars, it's a system that complies, Start & Stop in traffic, front grill automatic closing and opening and other things, it is intended to lower the fuel consunption and lower the CO2 emissions, basicly an ECO system! This all system only started this year but did any cars add these grills before it? Are they the same system as the implemented now?

My bad, ment Efficient Dynamics. My car is a 'Efficient Driving' model with no close-able 'flaps', all LCI models are part of this programme. But only the 520d has the SnS-function.

My old 2005 530d had the grill with the close-able 'flaps', but my new LCI don't. That's why it's not strange why you have them.

Thanks for the help, now I'm cleared!

Just one question for you that you had one previous "e60" model and now the new one, do you think that the difference in horse power beetwen them is so evident that I should spent money increasing the horse power on mine? Any difference in fuel consuption in the previous and the new one?

Thanks

My old 530d had 218hp/500Nm from the beginning and then I added a optimising plug-in box increasing it to 265hp and 560Nm, so probably it was faster than my new 235hp LCI 530d.

The difference between the engines is that the new one is more high revving, and it's smoother. Also the new engine is lighter and it has a little better consumption. I don't think I'm going to tune the new car since the old had a lot of turbo whistle, and I'm afraid that it was the tuning that started it.

Hi,

I asked this at the dealership and they answered that all LCI models except the ones with M-aerodynamic package do have this system. Previously, from the very begining of E60 it was also part of factory package, but was left away, I think in autumn 2005. My first E60, 530i 04/04 had automatic closing flaps as does my current 525iA LCI 04/07.

Great info! Wonder why the M-Sport doesn't have it...
