BMW E60 Adaptive Headlights

Hi Everyone,

The adaptive headlights on my 2005 e60 turn Left but not right, is this standard or a fault?

Are you checking this while you are standing still. They will turn both ways only when the car is in motion.

Try turning the engine on, put it in drive, and while stationary, ( and preferably in the dark ) turn the steering wheel lock to lock, and you should see if the adaptive lights follow the direction of the wheels.

ok so i have done this stationary, from lock to lock ...... lights move only towards left ... NOT right

so you reckon they move while in motion ... i will try this tonight in the dark

Yes, they only move both ways when you are moving.

This is to stop people who are testing them from blinding road users travelling towards them!

When stationary they will only move towards the shoulder (verge), not towards the oncoming lane/traffic. I would say left/right but I don't know which side of the road is the correct one in your part of the world. If I had to guess you live someplace where you normally drive on the left (UK, etc.)

mine turns right but not left..maybe we should trade headlight

Yes, i live in UK i guess it is sorted and the lights are probably OK

You should also note that when in motion...they turn 15 degrees to the right (assuming this is a left-hand drive car) and only 8 degrees to the left - into oncoming traffic.
