I notice a dime size spot of fluid every morning and I have already bought the pan gasket and Pentosin ATF. Can you guys help me with a step by step diy?
Thanks

use a flashlight and make sure you understand where the leak is actually coming from. Mechatronics sleeve is known to leak... it leaks along the pan wall and on to the gasket... leading you to think the pan gasket is actually leaking.

+1 well documented Mecha. issues with this model.

Definitely requires diagnosis before you begin to tear it apart.

My 545i required both pan (cracked) and mechatronic sealing sleeve replacement at 74K miles.

You will use your gasket in any case, but you'd hate to have to do it twice if the gasket is not the source of the leak, necessitating buying more fluid, another gasket and spending even more fun time under the car.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I just took my car in for an oil change and the battery cable recall and my service agent noted that the mechatronic sealing sleeve needs to be replaced. I was quoted $920 parts and labor from stealership. Does this sound on par as far as pricing goes?

They all seem to need the megatronic sleeve replaced at some point.
I had to mine at about 53,000.
Cost $500 at an indy trans shop.
Don't go to the dealer!!

Here's another tread with some good info.
