Got a call from the shop today. The Firewall is damaged and as per BMW cannot be repaired. They are writing it off. Thank You everyone for your concerns.....off we go car hunting again...

i think that is a good news then . if you are happy with your dealer, just go back and buy another from them again...unless you want to leave us and get a m.benz :'(. i'm sure they'll give you some kind of loyal discount .

Learning something new about the car, By the way, what is it and unique about the "firewall"?

 

In the E60, its at the firewall where the aluminium front subframe mates with the steel rear subframe. This mating is special (due to corrosion that happens when unlike metals are joined...) using alot of new techniques and compounds. If it gets damaged... repair is quite dificult I imagine.
