Do it. Great magazine + dealer discounts + local chapter events + rebtes.... For $40/year (it used to be $35) you can't beat it. I joined in 1999, about a month after getting my first BMW. I have received rebates on 4 new cars since totaling about $3500.00. I would call that a pretty good investment.

Went to Vegas in 2006 - broke even. Entered the BMWCCA Foundation Raffle that year and was one of three winners. After entering the raffles for 10 years I thought the odds were pretty good.
