My Ride: E 60 520i Sport and yes this engine is still sold in Thailand!
Default

Just got of the phone with BMW, Thailand. The 530i is not anymore available in Thailand as according to BMW, the volume is to low. Only the 523i and 525i and 520d remain. Asking what a imported fully assembled 530i would cost (BMW assembles in Thailand), a staggering Baht 6'000'000.- (USD 176'000 or Euro 130'000) was mentioned. So much to my thought of buying one this year. Import taxes of asembled cars are 300%

Cheers

Comes with the basic stuff like advanced aircon, comfort seats, cruise control and 18" wheels but otherwise plain Jane

The solution could be ... A 525i supercharged!

Jurgen, if the taxes on an assembled ar are so high, maybe you can get BMW to ship it to you in pieces and assemble it yourself! Or, maybe you can find a government official you can talk (??) to.

The LCI 525i has a 3 litre engine as well. That will do fine.

Also look into the new 520d with the 177 hp engine!

In Finland the base 530i costs 67,000 Euros but a car with needed small extras and auto trans is about 80,000 Euros.
That is US $ 110,000.

Mine '05 525iA costed about 70,000 Euros = $ 96,000.

Our car tax is "only" 100 %

I paid 2.2 million NT Dollars ( US$67,000) for my 520d here in Taiwan. And it's German assembled and shipped direct from over there.

Even my 520 Sport is over a $ 100'000.-! Completly nuts, but just love the car. It really seem not much choice: Either swallow the price or get a 525. Has anybody experience on chiping a 525? There are not many tuners around and the one I talked to about a blower was dodgy, just did not feel right. A sort of do it yourself chiping would be more my sort of thing.

The pre-LCI 530i sold in Thailand was assembled in Indonesia, Using AFTA trade priviledges, it costs THB4.9m. It may be that BMW Indonesia no longer assembles the LCI 530i, therefore BMW Thailand can no longer offer 530is at reasonable prices. The Indonesian 530i wasn't that popular anyway. Having said that, it has good equipment levels (active steering, tv+sat nav, comfort seats etc etc).
The problem with Thailand isn't the import tax, it's the excise tax. For cars over 2500cc, it's huge, & for cars with more than 220ps (regardless of engine capacity), it's even bigger. The total tax in Thailand levied on a new car is import tax (flat rate depending on category of vehicle) plus excise tax (dependant on engine capacity + output threshold). My family travels to Thailand a lot & we have an apartment there, but with very high car prices, we're still sticking with a '95 E34 525i.
