Thanks all for the responses and opinions! i think I'm leaning towards getting it. I had forgotten about those other niceties Pukka mentioned.

Too much if you live even close to an urban area, I live in LA, I have AAA, what are the chances of me getting so stranded I can't call anyone? Please, it's just another useless service. I don't even like paying AAA, my wife and I have had it a combined 12 years - used? Once. Price? $155/yr with extended towing - pointless.

BMW Assist is sort of like birth control ... you probably didn't think you needed it until it was too late!
However, in the case of a BMW Assist "event" ... there's no morning-after pill!!
PS .. my insurance company give me a discount because I'm covered by BMW Assist. If I still have my 530xi when the plan expires I will very likely renew it. For me it's at least as important as Satellite Radio.

I keep it more for peace of mind in case of a crash and I/wife cannot make a call for help. $200 seems pretty cheap when minutes matter after a bad crash.
Check that your model will allow the remote unlock. My salesperson told me mine did but when I needed to use it, it was a no go (and I have every other option available on a 06 530 xi). I was Pissed!
My 2 cents!

I was considering getting the base package that BMW Assist offers (Safety Plan). However, I only drive my car ~ 500 miles per month. Anybody else have my scenario and still opted for the service? FYI, I bought the car just as it went out of warranty (50,600 miles right now).
I have a similar situation as yours. I drive my car 8 miles each way to the station everyday, and have opted for BMW Assist every since I got the car, and will continue to get it, even though I have used it only once to call a tow truck when my car stalled in the middle of the road a few years ago. IMO, it's similar to buying car insurance.

" Access in a pinch.
Your keys may be locked in your vehicle, but you're not out of luck. With Door Unlock*, all it may take is a phone call to the BMW Assist Response Center at (888... to get you back behind the wheel. Once a response specialist has confirmed your name and password, a signal is sent to your vehicle to unlock it remotely. If any additional services are required, a response specialist will be happy to assist you.
*Available on BMW Assist-equipped and activated 2008 and later X3 and Z4 and all other 2007 and later models produced 9/06 and later."

I've NOT ONCE used it, so to me it is worth absolutely nothing.
