My Ride: '05 545i - scheduled for ED pickup in Munich on 7/22!
Bluetooth is supposedly part of BMW Assist, so if I don't renew, do I lose Bluetooth?
What other services are deactivated if I don't renew? Basically can't use SOS button? Dealer no longer calls me when service is due? If I crash the car, BMW won't call me automatically?
The BMW Assist Safety Plan is free for 4 years on MY2007 E60s. Can I receive this plan for free too?

Bluetooth has nothing to do with any subscription. If you have it, it will work for the life of the car.
I'm not familiar with the different BMW Assist plans but I'm pretty sure you can still use the SOS button and I'm sure that the car still sends service requests to dealers...

Can confirm that the SOS button works w/o assist - ask my 2 year old... (at least - the light came up, then daddy switched it off. Bad daddy!)

If you dont renew I think they disconnect the SOS button to BMW Assist. BUT I've read it now connects you to 911 instead and not to BMW Assist. You also lose all the concierge services that BMW assist offers of course. and I'm guessing you lose the service where BMW calls you to tell you you need to service the car. I think thats a waste. I'll monitor that myself and I think my dealer is too busy to even care if the cars are telling them they need to be serviced...
4 years free for your car? Probably not. it was not part of the deal when you bought your car. Its somthing they added and included for MY07s as a incentive... somthing new... add on... included in their price... etc etc. so ya you prob wont get it... But try... see if you can negotiate it...

BT still works
I had it for one year then didn't re-new. It was nice when BMW assist would give you directions for free and concierge would give you phone numbers to places. Now they don't do that anymore, I don't really see the value for the 200+ USD they charge you here in the states.
I think they added those 4years free thingie cause their customers were not renewing the service after their first year and they needed to justify keeping the staff on the BMW assist center. Besides, I believe BMW assist is standard on the E60, but I think they included the four year annual fees in the premium package price, somehow.
Sorry to be so negative about it, I hear wonderful things about GM's On Star service. Any positive comments about BMW Assist?

(now whether or not the dealer calls you, that's a different story...)
Thats probably why... I never gotten a call from the dealer once... BUt then again I always take it in when its close to being due for service... I know my cars...
