In the SIB that describes how to get the BT stuff activated for our E60's, I noticed that there is a little diddy stating that BMW ASSIST now includes stolen vehicle recovery.

I wonder if that's universal to the ASSIST service, i.e. all ASSIST equipped vehicles come with it, or only new vehicles.

If that's the case, then there could be some insurance benefit to having the service.

Here is the text from the bulletin:

5. Stolen Vehicle Recovery service has also been added to subscribers of the BMW ASSIST program. To access information about Stolen Vehicle Recovery, follow the path as outlined below:

Log into CenterNet.

From the "Menu" tab select "BMW Assist".

Select "Stolen Vehicle Recovery Insurance Discount"

I saw another post from someone with a MY05 who said this was the case (vehicle recovery now available) but I have never seen any indication whether it works for MY04 or if there is some retrofit needed, etc. Of course I haven't bothered to ask my dealer as I'm sure they know nothing about it.

Could somebody with a MY04 call BMW assist from his car and find out? I'm on a business trip and I cannot do it myself.

I was told the same thing last night by my BMW dealer for the 2005 model year - he said that the car could be disabled by BMW if it was reported stolen.

Yep, that was me. Here is the Thread link.

I have so far been unable to get information regarding the 2004 models either.
