Just wondering how many E60 owners in NA opted to purchase BMW Assist after the complementary first year subscription.
I just got my renewal notice in the mail and am wondering if it is worthwhile.
I have never used Assist over the past 11 months and don't know whether it is worth the $200 CDN they are asking for per year. If I need roadside assistance, I have my cell phone with me in the car. If I'm in an accident, ditto on the cell.
Other members' experiences and comments would be appreciated.

What happens with the SOS button after the 1st year expires? Does anyone know if it will still call 911??
The only GOOD and useful thing that I found is that it'll dial to BMW assist if you are in a accident (ie. airbag deployment) and cant dial yourself.
They should offer a strip down version of just THAT service. I would pay for that. I dont need them to book my hotel or reserve my dinner reservations and all that stuff.

I have to admit that I just renewed it (shoot me if you want...).
I used it twice so far.
Once when I got rear ended and the BMW guy was VERY helpful. The person that rear ended me had called the cops (so she said). After 20 min, they had not come. I used the SOS button and BMW called the State Police and they called me back in the car twice to give me updates.
The other time was when my car had the transmission failure - I used it to call Roadside assistance, which also worked great.
A friend of mine was saved by his ONSTAR system after a wild accident that left him unable to use his cell phone.
Its just like homeowners insurenace or flood insurance - it hurts to pay the bill, but it might be very helpful one day...
...and its only 0.2% of the purchase price of the car and a lot less than the annual depreciation we take...

330i Mystic Blue (2004) premium package, sport package
I would rather invest the money on a good reception cell phone and a car charger rather than paying $200 per year for that!

Thats why a stripped down version of BMW Assist is good. I should suggest that to BMW.

My Ride: 2005 525i Titanium Silver Metalic and 2003 325xi Jet Black with the Premium Package in both cars.
Yeah....I just renewed it. I've used it once in 1 year. I agree about if you have an accident, at least they will know where you are as long as the air bag is deployed. There is one thing that does annoy the crap out of me is the fact if you get lost and need directions, it will cost you $4.95 per call. After paying $249.00 for a renewal, one would think they would at least throw in the directions part for nothing........; I guess everybody got to make a buck, but I think thats a bit too much .....BMW ~Assist people......

My Ride: 2005 530i (Silver-Gray, Gray Lthr., Anthracite Maple) with Steptronic, Prem. Pkg., Logic 7, Xenons & Chrome factory wheels.
The BMW Assist program can also provide info on where the car is located, which can be most useful if the car is stolen. When I initially contacted BMW via the SOS button to check the system, they knew that the car (2005 530i) was at my house. A free "LoJack" system, except for the annual renewal fees.
