if you can live with a 2-seater id vote for the SLK55 AMG in a heartbeat... just make sure you get a silver or black one, dont go with any of the other colours... Interior is a bit cheap compared to the CLS/SL/S/CL (but still better than bmw's) and the engine is an absolute marvel... and the sound is beautiful
as for me i swapped an e46 m3 (and sold a 530d) for a CLS55 AMG and never regretted it... best car i have ever owned

If you want something that's rewarding to drive, looks good & has the space then it's the E60 all the way (of course).
As he says though for a weekend blat & a giggle then the SLK would be my choice. Ignore his silly AMG ramblings that the engine is a marvel, it's good but not that good & always get's killed by BMW's finest. One is fun & quick (AMG) the other is quick & practical (550). Although i'd opt for the M5 as Merc have nothing yet to worry an M5.

M5 is fast, but even I got dizzy while driving the M5. The car jerks more during gear change.

Have you drive a E63 before. It's damm fast and comfortable, too.

If you don't need the space, then I'd go with the SLK. Although at the price of the AMG model, I'd consider it's competition, Mcoupe, cayman S or perhaps a certified 997S.
