I'm thinking of an 07 550 or an 07 MB SLK 55 both nice and I know this is a BMW forum but I'm hoping for some unbias opinions if possible it would be a great help. I have driven both and I know they are two different type cars I was just wondering if anyone had any insight on these two cars BTW I can get a 6K discount on the 55 BMW not so much 3k at the most. just put that into the mix.

Thanks Everyone

I think the key here is that you're comparing apples to oranges. Both cars are nice but, as you said, they are two different types of car. You really need to decide what type fits your needs.

Now, if you want my opinion, I'll say get the 550 in a heartbeat (but I might be a teeny bit biased...)

the choice is really up to you. id vote for the bimmer, theres more room plus you got the power. in my experiences with mercedes, they havent really been reliable and roadside assistance takes forever. bmw roadside assistance you get a quick response and they go to you right away. just my opinion and experiences, but the choice is completely up to you. whichever suits you best i would say.

Very different cars.

SLK is a small roadster and the E60 a large sedan.

As an compromise get the facelifted 650i or M6 next fall.

Is not SLK a two-seater? Should be rather compared to M-coupe, unless you meant CLK.

Simply say, if you want a weekend toy car, go for SLK. But if the car is going to be your daily driver, 550 is your best bet. I came from a 06 SLK280, and I just can't live with it in my daily driving routine.

I ran an E60 for 26th months and 60,000 miles until last August 2006 and it still looked good but I swapped it over with a colleague who does less mileage. I now have his two and a half year old E270 CDI and the quality is awful. Chrome on the front grill bubbling up along with the finish on the alloy wheels. Gear box is also prone to missing a change and when it does change down on kick down it is either slow or selects a gear with only 500 revs left before the limit I won't even bother to list the internal rattles. Oh, the centre air vents only do cool not hot

Take the BMW as I can not wait to get back into a 5er next year when the lease on the E270 pile of cr#p is up.

if you can live with a 2-seater id vote for the SLK55 AMG in a heartbeat... just make sure you get a silver or black one, dont go with any of the other colours... Interior is a bit cheap compared to the CLS/SL/S/CL (but still better than bmw's) and the engine is an absolute marvel... and the sound is beautiful

as for me i swapped an e46 m3 (and sold a 530d) for a CLS55 AMG and never regretted it... best car i have ever owned

Why not decided between a Cayman S against an SLK55 or wait for the upcoming E93 M3? They're about the same price range and class aint it?

Anyhow, if you are:
- more than 6 feet
- married with kids
- home no more than 2 cars in the family
...then go with the 550i
