Default BMW 535D M Sport - Transmission Fault

Hi,

I've a 2006 535D M Sport 64k on the clock it has been a dream to drive up till now, driving out of Bournemouth last night to overtake a car and then the car went into limp mode with the following error on the dash:

Transmission fault -
Possible reduction in acceleration
Possible to continue journey
have the problem checked by the nearest bmw service

now when I switch the car off and on again the problem is still there, so I plugged the car into a diag machine which my friend has and the gearbox came up with 1 fault the fault code was: 4F8518 what does this mean?

I've reset the code and the car is now fine again but I don't want to drive it hard as I believe the same thing will happen again.

Any help was would great!

i would start by checking ur battery and alternator.. when either one starts to go bad ul start to get multiple malfuctions.. on my car it was the transmission malfuntion, would stay stuck in gear... then it was ARS malfuntion,, dynamic drive,, and once i restarted the car,, they went away.. then my idrive went black and when it would come back my cluster lit up like a christmas tree with malfuntions,, once i changed the alternator problems solved..

Another thing is a bad crank shaft sensor will throw a transmission malfuntion error,,, ive read on these forums..
