Blue smoke out of exhaust ??

Have you had your oil services done regularly? I've had 3 high-mileage V-8 BMWs (140K to 240KK miles) and valve seals were never a problem. The oil separator (aka PCV thingie - can't remember the exact part now) had to be replaced on two of them ... gave symptoms like a vacuum leak ... lumpy idle ... some exhaust smoke.

David - would the cvv also be referred to as the oil diverter valve? My 530i was running very rough and smoking up a storm and dealer stating needs the ODV valve replaced.
I've been searching high and low for DIY info and haven't found much...

Since I got the car i've changed the oil every 5k miles if not sooner....

My question is there anything I should or should NOT be doing, like can spirited driving make it worse I do plan on fixing it within 2 weeks but I dont wanna worse the prob or in this case is the damage one ? Should i dump some Lucas in there???? help guys

my main rule with all engines is to always drive lighty until the engine and oil is warmed up.

revving an engine on a cold start, or driving an engine hard when cold, will shorten the life of the engine.
