In reference to the speakers I often wondered about that myself.

It also seems to me that in order to get the full effect of the L7 system, the volume needs to be a bit higher than normal. I don't "blast" my music, but enjoy it at a slightly higher level just to get the full quality of the L7.

Loud music here will warrant a pull over by the cops, thorough search of everything including any possible 'infractions', ticket of anything from 'reckless driving habits', 'disturbing the peace', 'unlawful operation of vehicle', and can even be towed away if they find your car has been modified in any way.

Many years back, it was really bad--I had an Uzi shoved into my face by the 'Heavy Crimes Unit' police for driving around in a modified Porsche with very loud music. Me and the passenger got taken to the police station where they rang up a sale of 'illegal modification of vehicle', 'disturbing the peace', 'unlawful operation of vehicle', and 'parking in an illegal red zone'. The last one is hilarious seeing that they're the ones that pulled us over onto the red zone for searching.

Luckily there were a few young cops in the station who recognized who I was and I just got away with one ticket of 'illegal mods'...

Needless to say, I've developed the habit of playing music at a low volume now.

the only thing at risk would be your ear drums.
In your ears, you have fine, tiny hairs which enable you to hear. Loud music causes these hairs to break and this is one of the few things your body does not regenerate. If you have ringing in your ears when you turn down/off the music, your body is telling you something. Loss of hearing can be avoided, be careful and take care.
