I've got a lot of distortion on my speaker at (slightly) higher volumes (I have to choose my words carefully, don't want to get flamed by Baadaaboo!). Do you guys thing I can take it up with my dealership, especially after readings Rudy's post about the speakers not supposed to be able to blow?

Loud music (I'm talking some serious 12s that make the neighbourhood quake), Loud exhausts can land you "Excessive noise" tickets here in BC...

Although it may be "harder" to blow a speaker in a properly designed audio system, it's still possible. Distortion isn't always a blown speaker though -- often times a blown speaker will 'pop' or 'crackle' at high volumes and other times, a blown speaker won't play at all.

What audio system do you have? Professional (L7)? If your speaker is simply distorting, and you don't have the higher end system, there may be nothing wrong. If you're under warranty though, it probably wouldn't hurt to have things checked out...

You have numerous grammatical errors in your posts. Are you sure you are an adult?

this thread went from what will happen to speakers to "kid." LOL. I sometimes blast my music. And it's chinese music. But at least, my car doesnt vibrate and shake other vehicles when it's on. "Kid's" gotta grow up and answer the question.

Worst case scenario with a blown speaker with a replacement to something even better

And now u have a reason to replace it with something better without "wasting" money!!

the only think at risk would be your ear drums.

extremely loud music from cars are disgusting and annoying. you people have no consideration of people around. your car deserve to be keyed.
Hey Badaboo, nobody has ever accused my loud Yanni music to be ghetto music.

There's the possibility that even with perfectly matched systems an aging speaker might blow due to the deterioration of the material.

I found this question online:
Do Your Speakers Deteriorate With Time?
As long as the speakers are not abused like directly exposing them to water, sunlight, excessive heat, or other destructive environmental factors, or over-driving them, there is no deterioration with time. Properly cared for, your speakers should be considered heir-looms.

Source: http://www.soundlab-speakers.com/faq.htm#9

In cars, most speakers are exposed to sunlight, possibly water (dew), and excessive heat and cold, making the material brittle over time and more susceptible to blow.
