Blower Fan

Did the fan 'pulse' before failing. My fan kinda pulses a little bit faster, little bit slower over a 2-3 second cycle. Can't notice it when moving, only when still. Is this indicitive of imminent failure ?
Is that a big job - replacing the fan ? I remember getting one replaced on a non-BMW and they had to take the whole dashboard out, steeting wheel off, to get to the heater matrix and fan.
Probably not the same on a BMW, but would be interested to know

I had mine replaced under cpo it cost 50$ out of pocket. My SA said it wouldve been a 3k $ job other wise. That's when I traded her in for a brand new 3

If the cost is $3k to replace heater fan, then it must mean they remove the dashboard and steering wheel because that cost must all relate to labor.
