For me, there is only one true black, and that's jet black.? Everything else is 'black with something else in it'.? I had a metallic black car, and it's beautiful, but it is not quite as 'black' as a jet black car.? It doesn't have the 'liquid' look that the jet black has when it's clean either.? I had the opportunity to see the two cars right next to each other at the dealer, and the metallic is just a bit lighter than the jet black.? Bottom line is you need to look at both and decide for yourself.

My Ride: June 2004, 520i, Sapphire Black, Black interior.
January 2003, VW Beetle 1.8T, Black Interior & Exterior.
I've got a Jet Black VW Beetle and a Sapphire Black E60 and I must say that the E60 is easier to maintain.

My Ride: 2005 545i SMG. Titanium Grey with Grey interior and Anthracite wood.
I like the Black Sapphire better than the Jet Black, however, if you ever damage the paint, it is almost impossable to get the metalic flakes to align perfectly and look exact. A pure black paint without the metalic flakes is easier to color match since their is no metalic.
When you re-paint metalic, their are more variable to make the colors and sheen match perfically..

Jet Black is a must. I've had a Sapphire Black E66 prior to this jet black E60. The latter although needs lots of care is definitely more striking. Take a look at this!!!

My Ride: MY05 545i Jet Black with Auburn interior. SMG, Logic7, Sport Package, Comfort Seats, Navigation.
I would go for JET BLACK,
It has a deep, liquid shine (when clean) that looks better than Sapphire. If you want an easier to maintain car, then go with silver gray.
I have had 5 cars in my life so far, and 4 out of these were Jet Black. Sure, you'll get lazy down the road, and the car will look dirty most of the time. But boy, when you wash the crap off, you'll be amazed on how new the car looks. Check out my 8 year old 328 and my new 5er below:

It's gotta be the Carbon Black with Auburn interior , it's worth the extra 2K, if not, it depends, you want black (Jet) or black that looks dusty (Sapphire).
