Got my car back this evening - the issue with the complete failure of the screen / i-drive apears to have been a software glitch as Texaz3 guessed .

New CIP was intalled which took the whole day.

According to the dealer they haven't seen this kind of 'total' failure before ... yeah, right

They also noticed that the rear shock absorbers need to be replaced following the latest recall - but unfortunately didn't have the parts to do it on the day - so it has to go back again in a few days :'(

Had a 320d M as courtesy car for the day - surprisingly good engine - but boy - I'm so happy I have an E61

Can you tell me more information about the recall? I just picked up my car on 6/30/2006 and I am wondering if my car is affected.

Thanks.

The recall affects all 5, 6 and 7 series cars build between Jan 9 and April 18 this year.

So you should be fine.

If he collected his car on 30/6/06 then it may have actually been built between the affected dates, no?
