You may be right. Does Mercedes give the European market a trunk button? (It's on the door on most newer models.)

I think we can blame Cadillac for starting all this trunk button nonsense! By the way, I think I can count on two hands the number of times I've used my trunk button over the last 6+ years. (I do use my cupholder regularly though! )

Huh? I use my trunk release button lots. I would definitely miss it if it wasn't there. Still hoping some nasty evil child gets in the way of it, but no such luck so far!. Disclaimer: I know not all children are nasty and evil! I'm looking for the middle-school bully for this experiment.

I couldn't determine anything about pre-wiring but if the E46 wasn't, my bet is that the E60 isn't either. Pennies add up!

Here is the instructions on how to remove the trunk switch in case someone without the switch wants to peek behind the panel and see if there is any extra wiring or connectors:
