I think we can blame Cadillac for starting all this trunk button nonsense! By the way, I think I can count on two hands the number of times I've used my trunk button over the last 6+ years. (I do use my cupholder regularly though!

Huh? I use my trunk release button lots. I would definitely miss it if it wasn't there. Still hoping some nasty evil child gets in the way of it, but no such luck so far!

The car in the pdf doesn't have the trunkbutton too. Can anybody see in TIS if the E60 is prewired for the button. I know that my old E46 wasn't.
Here is the instructions on how to remove the trunk switch in case someone without the switch wants to peek behind the panel and see if there is any extra wiring or connectors:
