think you might be right, it's seriously tempting to get a set of 18' non-runflats fitted despite only having 4500 miles on my current set. any idea how much this is likely to set me back?

Probable around $1500. See TireRack.com
I am surprised how many are having problems with the run flats. These are my first set but I am not having any problems. I have not read this but I do believe that the rims will be more susceptible to pothole damage without the stiffer sidewall to absorb some of the shock. I am in the NY Metro area and the roads are not great.

I don't know mate, but I am in an e39 525i Sport at the moment (car in bodyshop), and the ride is a lot better than my e60 - it must be the tyres.

I've been the first to promote the safety benefits of run-flats on here, but I have some serious thinking to do,

Having said all that I posted a link the other day to Honest John's website. He's slated the runflats in the past but he reviewed a 1-series with Goodyear run-flats and said they were much, much better than any other he'd tried before.

serious thinking to do indeed

hummm....xmas list

PS 2 and grand theft auto or 4 non-runflats??

I'd be interested to hear experiences of anyone on the board who's made the change

Jonboy,

Interesting post. I scared the h*ll out of myself coming home tonight. I drive a 12 mile stretch of a road with a few fast sweeping bends and I had a sensation that the shock absorbers and steering were somehow working against each other. The road was slighty wet and a little greasy but I've never had that sensation before. It felt as though the steering rack had a delay in responding to my input then suddenly applied lock unexpectedly. I don't have active steering nor do I have servotronic, just the standard rack and pinion. I can normally drive through these bends comfortably at 75 to 80mph but at 60mph tonight they felt scary.

My tyre puncture warning system was silent but as it was dark I couldn't visually check the tyre for any sign of a puncture. I'll check them out in the morning.

A very disconcerting experience to say the least.

sounds like the feeling i had - makes you think twice about going anywhere near 10/10ths. Also interested too see that you've got the sports suspension - thought it might be my std set-up that was to blame

jonboy

btw - are you planning to join the UK meet 15th Jan?
