I miss my fold down seats, that I had no idea was an option on my 550. I am a realtor and my yard signs are too large for the trunks so I have to lay them in the back seat. but since this is my first bimmer, I will know next time what is worth paying for and what isn't.

Navigation, no reason this option should still be $1900.
How much is bluetooth? With all the laws and accidents that should be standard.

All options are a rip off in financial terms, you will never see that money again!

But if they add to your enjoyment, and you have nothing better to spend the money on, why not!

Not quite true, pro nav in the UK will return a large % of the cost, on an X5 it actually returns more than the cost

Most other options your right though, they return ?0 on money spent

Wrong, HiFi stereo is standard in the U.S.

I'll tell you what a rip off is.

It's when you ask your dealer to quote for a retrofitted bluetooth system and phone cradle and he looks you in the eye and says ?1,800. That's $3,546 in a proper currency.

That makes it so expensive, that I will not even spend my company's money on it. That might well be one reasonable definition of a rip off.

If they halved the price, they may actually sell a few.

Fold down rear seats and rear seat airbags should both be standard items not add ons. Safety should be built into each car at this price and type so airbags should be standard.
The fold down seats seem like such a practical necessity that it would just be easier to fit all the cars coming down the line with fold down seats. It might even simplify things to have a few less options and a few more standard items.

Once a car in this segment hits the $50K+ mark (base MSRP) there;

Should be no need for a 'Premium Package' all these items in this package should be standard.

Should be no charge for widely available colors, only for special order unique colors.

Should be no charge for Confort Access.

Should be no charge for any of the items listed in the Entertainment Options except Sat radio (because you have to subscribe).

Should not be a charge for Nav. or PDC.

BTW, that still leaves $19,259 worth of Options/Accessories not including 19' wheels, an additonal $4,000-$4,995.

Just my 2 cents,

Phill
I agree with all you list plus can't believe fold down rear seats are optional on a car like this. Every car I've ever owned, which includes Hondas (even the hatchback in college!), Mitsubishis, BMWs, and even my Porsche had folding seats standard. OK, the 911 seats didn't give you trunk access, but they did fold down!
