Hey All,
Can i pick your brains for a mo?
Left my UK 530i (2004) parked in my garage for 10 days whilst i went on holiday (Brazil is wicked by the way, at least it is for a Brit - sun, sand, honey's etc....)
Anyway, i came back and moved my car to find a considerable puddle of oil underneath
Never a good sign, so took it straight to my usual mechanic (non-BMW) and we put it on the ramp.
It seems to be coming from the gearbox, which can't be healthy
We managed to take apic, below, and my mechanic reckons it may be coming from the black clip / loom type thing in the pic.
He's not a bmw guy., so he's only guessing, but he reckons i should ask BMW if that loom can be replaced????
Any thoughts from you guys - is this likely to ruin my happy and pleasant thoughts of lying on copacabana beach, with the suntanned honey's passing by........ahem.
If it helps, the oil was pretty light and clean, and car was parked completely flat for 10 days.
Many thanks in advance!

There has to be some sort of O'ring for that connector. Look at the factory parts list to see if it helps determine what could be causing this.
Go to realoem.com for parts list.

Hey All,
Thought I'd update for those who responded or who may be interested.
Took motor to a transmission specialist here.
They wanted it for a day to check the leak. I discussed what it could be, and said i was thinking about a full oil change for the transmission - my mileage is 74k miles.
So they agreed to change oil, and identify leak at same time.
Bascially, they said the transmission sump was leaking from the bottom. They changed the sensor in the pic above as well, because although it didn't look like it was leaking, it was only accessible when the sump was off, so why not?
I've had car back for a few days now, and monitoring where i park to check for leaks, but ok so far.
costs:
transmission sump ?110 ($181)
oil - 7 litres ?70 ($115)
suspect sensor ?15 ($24)
labour ?90 ($148)
total including VAT = ?327 ($539)
couldnt really afford that right now, but i guess its an investment in keeping the transmission nice and healthy. They said the old oil was in pretty good condition, juts a bit low due to the leak.
Peace.
