Compared to our other VW Polo (front wheel drive), it handles very well, however, with the sports suspension it sometimes touches snow in streets that aren't properly cleared of snow.
Our car has regular studded winter tyres - hey - we're north of the arctic circle.
225 mm fitted on 16" rims.
The car handles very well on icy and snowy roads (have only driven during 0'C/32'-like conditions - under which roads become extremely slippery compared to more freezing temperatures). Compared to our E39 it seems to be handling slightly better, but comparing an E60 to an E39 without sports suspension might be a bit difficult.
However, one must not forget that there are lots of other cars that handle slippery conditions like these, way better than any rear wheel-drive BMW.
