Other than the error re 2nd gear it's far from inaccurate in relation to launching with an automatic. Brake torquing has typically produced the fastest times on the E60's with step or SAT. Two posters who were here before your time, Znod and Grogan545, achieved the best 0-60 times recorded on the forum using the basic approach outlined by fastdsl.
...edit... this is not an argument. i should choose my words more carefully. this is a discussion. it seemed as if you were using the time someone has posted here like this is the mafia or something.

how long someone posts here has little to so with this argument. that being said, you are right, brake torquing usually provides good results. i can take it or leave it, however, i am not going to disagree with you. why are we turning of DSC still?

The before your time reference was only because you've probably never seen the threads Znod and Grogan created, they don't post much here anymore. They stopped regularly posting well before you registered. That said, they undertook the most scientific approach the forum has ever seen to determining how to launch the E60. If you can dig up their threads there's a lot of great information in there.

very interested in seeing it now. i will take a look. thanks.
My thoughts are DS mode, DTC mode (1 sec press of the DSC button), brake torqueing and experimenting to find the correct launch RPM for the car and conditions. I'd guess you want no more than a 1 second squawk of the tires before they gain traction. More than that you waste time, less than that and you bog off the line.
I experimented a lot with an E39 M5 but not so much with the 550i.
PS: A 1600 RPM clutch drop on the M5 would decimate the tires and cause fish tailing. That's full DSC off. It had no DTC mode.
I'd guess the 550i SAT could take around 2000 RPMs, a 535i a bit more.

What's the best way to launch a manual transmission 535i?
Steptronic 1st gear?
I read on another post something about "power launching" with the eBrake and turning "DSC" off.
What will turning DSC off accomplish?

If it is a manual trans, I would succest the same as before, but launch at 1st
gear without brake torquing.

ynotty, what state and city do you live in. If you are in the L.A./O.C. area in Socal, I would be more than happy to show you the differences of having
dsc on and off. i've raced a few members here and have posted some vids. In those vids, you will be able to see in multiple races that having dsc on does affect a good launch. PM me for more info. thanks

If it's a manual; engage first gear, floor the throttle, wait at least 10 seconds or until you can see smoke in your rear view mirror (which ever is the earlier), slide you foot off the side of the clutch and bingo you're off. Repeat until transmission/clutch fails....
