Wow... thats lame... too traditional i guess... respect the older sibling... but not bend over backwards... need to buy into the "American" way more. she'll be lucky to get the civic...
She'd be lucky to get the Civic in Korea! I haven't heard of anyone forcibly having to give up their car to a visiting relative. Maybe for a day, morning, or afternoon, but not for months. Even in Korea, one's car is sacred territory. No offence, but I think the aunt is to worried about "face"....

First: make sure you take a whole lot of high-res pictures of the car from every angle, along with a picture of the day's newspaper. Not kidding - the last thing you want to hear is "That scratch was already there".

Then: make sure she knows that he is going to be paying for any damage. That may or may not help - if my sister were driving a car that she knew I'd be paying for, she'd probably wreck it just out of spite.

Finally: have a friend pull in front of her and slam on the brakes. Her fault, and free stuff!

Thumbs down

Stop whining and step up to the plate ... Go out and buy your Dad's sister a new car.

It doesn't have to be anything fancy - a nice inexpensive i35 would fit in the driveway. That way your 5'er is in your safe hands. And, when she returns to the homeland you will have a second knock-around weekend car!

haha i wish she would understand, i didnt tell her to drive the civic yet, but i heard her saying, "im not driving that p.o.s. around(civic), anyways your son is too young to drive that car(e60)"
OK. This bitc....um, individual, is coming in from Korea. Aunt or not, she's a guest in your home. Ya'll are gracious enough to provide her a car. Yet, she has the audacity/gall to state that she's NOT driving the "POS civic" and insinuates that YOU'RE too young for the car YOU drive to basically get your dad to do what he did? I call than an ungrateful heifer and, since pops is soooo willing to play shell games with YOUR car/life, bring your case to your mom or another influential woman on 'the other side' of your family.

PS - If you're using 89 instead of 91 octane in your car, I'LL take away the keys LOL. A premium car deserves premium gas - and make sure your dad knows this.

i would kill someone if i was in your position...probally take a long ass road trip to a friends house and stay there for those..."months" hell no i would never just let someone borrow my car. Especially someone you barely know and who said that your too young to drive an e60 YOU paid for. I say you unhook the exhaust so its loud as hell and then glady hand her the keys..im sure she will love it..hahaha

Has no one ever heard of this brand new service that's really making waves? Erm ... a rental car?

The weekly/monthly rates can be very reasonable, even for something pretty nice like a Chrysler 300. Me thinks a family who can buy a $90K E60 for their son should be able to pony up the funds for a rental car. In fact, if it's a 'branch' of a major rental company, like operating out of a hotel for example, they'll often make a deal given that the rental is being extended for quite some time. It's simply good business and I do speak from personal experience.

And you just got this car, right? What about breaking it in properly? I'd find someone to advise your father about not doing this the right way and the potential damage that can be done for the longterm health of the car. Your aunt isn't going to respect that.

I would do everything I can to keep this from happening, and that doesn't mean you have to be disrespectful about it either. Get some logical options and facts to present to him if you want your way.

Sorry, have to do this: A "shell" is something one picks up from the beach; "she'll" is the casual combination of "she" and "will."

i heard her saying, "im not driving that p.o.s. around(civic), anyways your son is too young to drive that car(e60)"

This is just plain wrong! As a Korean-Canadian living and working in Korea for many years, I have heard relatives bit**ing and moaning about the cars I drive, but NEVER have I experienced, seen, or heard of a relative demanding he/she borrow a car for several months using the excuse, "I'm not driving a P.O.S. (Civic) around, anyways your son is too young to drive that car (E60)." Even in Korea, this is ridiculous! I think your aunt needs an serious attitude adjustment! Koreans have this thing about image. Your aunt is too caught up in that! If she can afford a huge house, then she can afford to by herself or at worst lease a new E60!

I think someone posted on this thread that you need to take this issue up with a higher authority. Like you mom. Sounds like a good idea. Your aunt has some gall demanding to your dad that she drive YOUR E60 for several months! I also have a b***h of an aunt and an as***le of an uncle, but they would never demand/request that I give up my car... even for 1 day! Something seriously smells rotten here...
