The mats in my e39 were washed at least every fall before putting in the rubber... so that's at least 8 times.
Probably closer to 16 as I would wash them mid season too.
No tearing or fraying on the binding. No loose threads. Nothing.
Not to say that the e60 mats would hold up the same. The backing seems a little less durable than the e39's.

I have black rummer mats for winter and beige textile for summer. Of course beige is more stylish, but also black looks good. In my precious car I had beige rubber mats for winter and they never looked good and were nightmare to clean.
Also decoration trim has a little impact. I have anthracite maple wood trim and it match well with black mats.
