Bearing noise
#1
Hy all!
I have a problem with this strange noise that looks like a worn bearing. Appears when speed gets to 30mph and it's getting loud (and annoing) at around 45-50mph and then dissapears slightly and bearly noticed after 70mph .
I'm sure that it could be from a bearing, but is a wheel bearing or axle bearing? The central transaxle bearing is coming with the axle itself or it comes just the bearing ?

I take it its coming from the rear which means it could be any number of things....diff/propshaft or even gearbox.
Have you checked for any play in the wheel bearing by vigeriously rocking it? Could even be down to a tyre fault.
No easy answer Im afraid and would advise getting it checked over by your local stealer.

How many miles on the car? Where are you hearing it from? I'd start with the wheels, are they all true and balanced?
After that, my first guess would be front wheel bearing or tension strut inner rubber joint if it's coming from the front wheels. Middle of the car possibly driveshaft guibo joint or center bearing. Rear of the car possibly lower wheel carrier ball joint or wheel bearing.
You would need at least 40k for this parts to have failed? I guess your out of warranty if your not bringing it to the dealer.
Good luck.

Well yeap! It's out of warranty...and it has around 40k...I'll take it to the dealer when I'll get home, I just wanted to here your opinions , cause I do not want them to change "all" existing bearings, just to get the right one...

Just curious since I've got a similar noise at the very same speeds in my 525d; did you ever find out what made the sound? I only notice the sound when I follow the track on worn tarmac, so I suspect it to be the whishbone or the tension strut like z0lt3c suggest (yes, my noice origins in the front and I believe it's on the left side). I just bought the car a couple of days ago, and it doesn't come with a jack-stand, so I'll have to buy one before I'll have a chance to get under the car. I probably won't be able to tell if any of them are worn anyhow, but it makes me feel better
I was thinking perhaps it would be a good idea to put the front-wheels to the back and opposite as well, to find out if it's just a damaged tire or something..
