I have an LCI 2008 528i and I am trying to find out what type of battery came with my car. The owners manual didn't say which type is in my car.

I need to charge the battery and it has three settings, AGM, GEL, and standard. So, I would like to know what type I have before I start the charging process.

Thanks,
Todd

If you have a sedan the battery is in a compartment on the right side of the trunk. Unless the battery was changed for some reason I'd select "standard" for charging. My advice, if the battery requires charging, is to have it inspected by a BMW dealer service center - it should be under warranty unless the car was stored and not used for an extended period of time. Even so, if the battery is flat or near dead, in my experience they may come back temporarily and will eventually expire prematurely!!

e60 batteries are AGM type, do you not want to overcharge these batteries.

My battery died a second time and I needed to get a boost from BMW Assist to get it started. The battery was no longer holding a charge. So, I brought it to my BMW dealer that I go to and they replaced the battery under warranty and didn't charge me for labor either. So, I got a free battery replacement!

I have read lots of threads about battery replacements and whether or not this requires the battery to be registered to the car. My battery was registered and my service manager said that it was required and they had to clear out all of the low voltage faults. My service manager said that the faults would have persisted until the new battery is registered.
