Hey guys,
Just incase it helps - I've been through the process and thought I'd let you know...
2 parts to changing the battery over.
Registering the battery basically records in the system - at what point you changed the battery. i.e. 60,000 miles - 9/4/13.
Registering the battery is straight forward / done via DIS. Good if you intend of selling the car in the future.
I guess you could put a label on the top of the battery with the date/car mileage on it?
Good Luck with it.

Autozone battery 3 years ago with no issues since, in 2005 545i. Cost about $100. No computer resetting either. If DIY, I recommend connecting another battery to the two posts under the hood to maintain your system settings. Just keep your polarity correct when connecting.
I just bought mine from Pepboys. Bosch with the same characteristics. Two days later I had a check engine light and a day later I had Park distance control Malfuntion light. Both went away and no problems since. They had a rebate and my total was $100.

Hi,
Some GREAT information here!
The logic of having to re-code/program a car for a dead battery is beyond belief, but this explains things well.. so Thank YOU!
