My Ride: 2008 535i LCI with sports/premium package, Sports trans with paddle shifters, CF emblems, JB4 Software, Dinan Exhaust, Navigation, M5Tech body kit, Carbon wrap interrior trim and CIC Controller.

Turning the steering fully to the left and then fully to the right RESETS the steering angle. You will have to do even if you don't have Active Steering.
Every time I disconnected the battery on my car, I got steering angle error on dashboard. I had to RESET the steering angle by doing that short procedure.

BMW battery is around $220 at BMW Parts counter. I bought new battery at BMW 5 months ago for that price and I installed it myself. I didn't do any registration of the battery.
The battery in your car is either a 80AH, or a 90AH, or a 110AH battery. Replace with EXACTLY same AmpereHour rating battery [as the original battery], and you are good to go.
