Hey-

Has anyone replaced their battery themselves? My dealer wants $400 to do it, say's it's incredibly difficult to do. Anyone have any details? Also had to have the hose and thermostat replaced due to a leak, and they want $323 for that. So much for the $4500 I dropped on CPO and maintenance. Live and learn.

I changed my battery myself, then took the car to the dealer to "register" the new battery so that a IBS (Intelligence Battery Sensor) knows to charge the battery correctly.
There's nothing difficult in the actual change operation, and some people say it's not even necessary to register the battery.

Sometimes dealers say that the new battery has to be "programmed" to the car, but as long as the capacity of the batt remains the same as the old one (for example 90Ah --> 90Ah), the programming/coding is unnecessary. Programming/coding the battery into a car is a much more time demanding process compared to the registering, which can be done in 10mins. They charged me 20? for this registering.
