do they typically last on a e60, specifically and 545i? How many months or miles can be expected? I am thinking, if approaching the end of normal life, that a little PM and getting it replaced before it dies might be the prudent thing to do rather than having it die on me who knows where.

Something to consider is a battery charger,we use one when one of our cars sits idle for more than a week. Both of us have experienced severe battery drain and this has been a great solution......... good luck

In my experience, the battery typically lasts only about 4 years.. I haven't had any problems with my E60 (yet, fingers crossed) but my E39 I had to change it twice...and the OEM battery isn't cheap...

Most batterys in general are anywhere in the 3 to 5 year area. Many last longer and few die younger.

There has been discussions on here on non OEM batteries that work just fine (do a quick search and few things should come up).

What has been anyone's experience using a battery "tender"? Do they really extend battery life like they claim?

I bought one right after my battery died (8 months old--BMW said I didn't drive enough to charge it) and haven't really had it idle long enough to need to use it yet. I hear good things, however, and plan to hook it up when I head to South America next week.

I just replaced mine, my car is almost five years old. I figured the battery would die at the worst possible time. The peace of mind cost $330.
