Basic Climate Control Fan Info

Reading through my handbook ( I have advanced aircon so couldn't check)
which came with my sept 03 car. It says the auto function operates the air flow but doesn't mention about changing the fan speed automatically.
Just thought I'd mention that in case you have a later print issue than mine!

Thanks for confirming this Oreo,
This is the way I would expect it to work - automatic.
I can't believe the limited, semi-automatic A/C functionality present in some of the earlier cars is by design, it just doesn't make sense.
Lets hope BMW bring out a fix for this.
Regards,
Phil.

I wrote to BMW Sweden to ask whether the automatic fan speed control of the Basic Clima in my car was due to a software or hardware change. Their answer was (freely translated from Swedish) "it is supposed to be a hardware change". They have been wrong before, but I just thought that I should let you know!
I wrote to BMW customer services in the UK regarding this problem.
In their response they highlighted the fact that they reserve the right to make changes on specifications of any vehicle model throughthout the products' lifecycle. They also went on to point out that the fan speed on my car cannot be modified to operate automatically and that it was specified with basic air conditioning and therefore has been built correctly and functions as intended by design.
In closing they informed me that there is no retrofit kit or software upgrade to modify the functionality of the fan speed.
Recently manufactured E60s seem to have fully automatic std A/C, as for slightly earlier cars, it looks like we are stuck with the manual fan.

Hi,
I am in the UK and have a March06 E60 525i Sport with Standard Auto Air con.
With Auto engaged I never touch any dial exept the temp, in fact I have only ever used Auto, which also controls fan speed.

Just for the record. I've just bought a June 2004 model with standard air con (and disappointed that the features which were standard on the E39 such as quick screen clear, dual controls, auto pollution etc have gone !). Standard air con/climate control DOES control fan, vents and hot/cold air. Not sure how I tell which level of software I have though...
Hope this helps.
