Over on some other boards (roadfly), they're talking about Chris Bangle leaving BMW after the 1 series is launched. Obviously, this is generating the usuall Bangle bashing over there, since that's just about all they do anyway.

Has anyone heard anything official about this?

I read it in a magazine last night, same one where the roadfly post started from, haven't heard of any other sources.

Did the magazine mention anything else (e.g. reasons, what the outcome might be), whether it's due to the style controversy, etc, etc? Did the magazine just throw it out there? Seems like a pretty good "scoop" for a magazine, it seems odd to not put a bigger story around it.

I thought the 1 Series wasn't due out for a few years yet? That would make Bangle's leaving somewhat far off & a bit on the speculative side.

I would think that it would have been public knowledge already if Bangle had only been contracted for a few years. Unless someone at BMW told him his contract won't be re-newed? How would they know that for sure?

No doubt that sales expectations (or lack thereof) for the 7 series and even the new 6 have prompted BMW to finally end their love affair with this conceited, selfish designer.

This could be BMWs salvation in the long run...
