I am back from about a 1000 mile road trip in my 550. We drove from Seattle down to the Sacramento area with detours to the coastal highway for one afternoon.
It was great! I loved having Sirius so I could listen to ESPN talk radio, and my brother was constantly wanting to check with CNBC to see how his Google stock was doing.
When we entered California on I5 we went through the mountains. On one long fairly steep grade I just put the pedal to the floor, and does this engine ever pull! I finally backed off at 120, but there was brisk acceleration at the time I did so. My 13 year old nephew Ben said
"sweeeeeeet!" My e46M3 would not have had nearly this much pull going up that incline.
Once at our destination we visited my older brother. What did we do? We went out and looked at cars. First to a Porche dealership and then a BMW. My older brother test drove a 330i. His remark is that it was a dissappointment to him after driving my 550i. I think I converted my younger brother to the BMW fold - he now drives a Lexus LS 430. My older brother does not need converting, as he has had BMWs - one 3 series for over 20 years.
I couldn't be happier with the car. I have 5000 miles now and since switching out the runflats for Michelins I would say the car is close to perfection.

How much brake dust did you accumulate going down those mountains, your wheels must have been covered! Congrats, sounds like a nice trip.
