Thumbs up

My new 545i SMG will supposedly arrive this weekend. I have been looking forward to the car a lot, but I am confused. I recently heard so many bad things about the E60. I particular, the Roadfly E60 board is extremely negative.

Are there actually any happy E60 owners out there?

Btw., I have an E39 now and its by no means perfect. I am used to the usual BMW quirks.

Joe

Very happy, despite having my service engine soon light come on yesterday at 5,250 miles! Now depending on how this is resolved, my happiness quotient may fall accordingly.

The 545 a great car, Joe, with a substantial (in my opinion) amount of fixable "quirks." The Roadfly board is filled with fellas who want an e60 but can't afford one. You know, the same guys who hide under their bed covers at night, with a flashlight, reading car magazines, and dreaming about cars they can never have. This board is much better.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your choice of car!

More than likely, the car will exceed your expectations -- especially if you've read all the doom and gloom on Roadfly!

You'll love the SMG but maybe not the first few days. After a few weeks, you'll begin to see why it's great. After a few months, you'll see why it's the future of manual transmissions. Just be patient while your brain "reprograms" itself to the new shifting process.

Also, be sure to read the FAQ forum here for a bunch of information regarding not only the SMG, but also various bits of miscellaneous information that'll help you understand why we love our cars so much!

And, make sure your car has the most recent software upgrade available and every recall item repaired before you leave the car dealer's parking lot.

I agree with Evenflow, make sure they update the software and have the recalls taken care of.

I am happy overall with the 545, but I had to bring it in 4 times. One for a recall (fuel retention clip) and the service engine light malfunction (software upgrade fixed this , it hasn't come on since)

You will see that this car is a jet in disguise, and you will enjoy driving it and you will look for excuses to drive it. I still look for excuses myself. This is the ultimate driving machine, unlike no other.

I am very happy with my car.

I have always wanted a BMW but just couldn't "afford" (mortgage, charity, tuition for grad school, kids school fund, etc) it until recently. Drove a 96 Honda Accord until I bought my 530i. My 530i, by far, has been the best car I have ever had.

So, in summary, only about 1% (my own poll) of 545 drivers are unhappy with their cars. Comfortable, lightning quick for a two ton car, nice gadgets, corners like a sumbitch, and you look/feel darn good driving it.

That being said, I wonder how many 545 owners will be happy with their cars once the odometers hit 50,001 miles and the factory warranty expires? I know that mine will be long gone before then.

Why do you listen to 10 guys over the RoadFly E60 board that dont own the car and dont listen to over 1000 happy owners over the E60.net ?

You will be very happy with your E60 545, just ignore the trolls over the RF board !

Very happy with mine. Has it quirks (what car doesn't?????), most of which have been or are going to be fixed but for the other 99.999% of the time it is a great car!
