So does anyone know if the standard aux input on the 2007 (US) models will be any different (better)? Or is it basically the same setup, just now integrated in the console and standard?

I will just go ahead and say my assumption is that the AUX input is the same, just installed from the factory vs. dealer.

It will have the resisitors/caps.

ok guys when i pulled out my wire... there was only a small piece of computer chip with the 2 wires connected to it. is this right? it's only in once place right? not in 2 different places? i didn't see any cap or resistors... only a short computer chip like piece.

dv8ed -- I'll answer your question...Mine had the same computer chip in the bundle - NOT the three capacitors. I was happy to see your question, bummed that no one answered it.

Well, even though I was a little nervous, I snipped. Then I stripped. Then I connected. Shortly there after, I powered up my car, connected my iPod, hit play while holding my breath, and...Yee F*^!ing HAW! Sounded great, exhaled.

So, go on know, and Git 'R Done!

OK.

I just got a new AUX cable, and have now removed the resistors/caps.

I took pictures of every step, from unsheathing the cable, to soldering and heatshrinking the connections.

I will post a DIY thread as soon as I get the pics loaded.

Still deciding if I want to do it. Only issue I have is that would probably want to put it back in when I turned the car back in (lease) incase next owner does not know about it, and fry the amps.

Just do it - it's easy and safe - mines sat in my desk draw ready to go back on if and when required.

I purchased a new cable for $69 and removed the board from it.

I will keep the original, just for the reason you stated..... or in case I have a problem.

Then I just swap them out.

If you can't spare $69, then you shouldn't be driving a BMW.

Priorities.
