automatic wipers

Does anyone else experience thisproblem? When i place my wipers into automatic mode, there is really no rhyme or reason as to when the wipe. I thought the purpose was to have the wipers wipe when the windshield is covered with a certain amount of raindrops. Regardless of the setting (the little wheel thing) theeee wipers sometimes wipe when there is very little rain on the windsheild and other times will not wipe when there is ample amounts of rain. Is this an Idrive issue or sensor issue or is this m
normal. Thx

Mine seems to work fine in both light & heavy rain.
Another observation about the wipers is that the E60's self sprung wiper blades work much better than the wipers on the E39. Less noise & more effective.

The little wheel is for adjustment of the sensitivity of the wipers. Mine works fine, the wiper will wipe if it senses rain drops in the sensor area which is behind your rearview mirror on the windshield.

Mine mostly work OK - but certain types of rain do seem to cunfuse the rain sensor, resulting in needing to control manually.
But we do have plenty of types of rain in Scotland ;-)
