Does anyone know how to adjust the sensitivity of the automatic windscreen wiper activation.
Sydney has been in the grip of a drought since I have purchased this car so I have had little use for the wipers. But the last month has brought much rain and now I notice that the screen is cover in drops before the wipers start.
Is there a way for us to adjust the sensitivity?

Coincidently, I looked this up yesterday. The semi-rotating switch on the stalk next to the auto-wiper button adjusts sensitivity. One thing which is not clear is which direction is more and which is less.
Also...according to my dealer the speed of wipers when on Auto also has something to do with speed of driving. So it could be at max sensitivity but will hardly "wipe" if you are sitting stationary at traffic lights....
Hope that makes sense and helps.

"Upward", or to the wider white bar on the switch, is more sensitive, "Downward" is less.
I have never been able to notice any difference in wiping frequency with rain sensing wipers through trying to adjust them. Also I thought I read somewhere that the "adjustment lever" only works/effects non rain sensing wipers.

The adjusting is definitely possible for rain sensors. The difference indeed, is not immediately noticable. The difference in sensitivity between annoyingly slow and a bit too soon is very small and it takes a while to get used to the new setting.
The stop at standstill was often bloody stupid on the E39 non-rain sensor interval position as you can't see the lights or other traffic. Only in little rain it was allright.
In my current E60 the standstill seems to be slightly less stupid but still I used to switch on the continuous wiping. I got used to the delay though, and now (a year later) I don't touch that stalk any more than push for 'on'.

Thank you all - I will try out the suggestions when the next drought breaks.
