Unless you've got money burning a hole in your pocket, I think the cost of the airbag will make retrofitting the SMG wheel into the car not worth it.
Now if you still want to do it, I don't know why you wouldn't be able to adapt the wiring to do what you want....

I know a lot of people who installed it on their E46 and it works great! I also have read on e46fanatics about a guy that made the retrofit himself because he found the kit to expensive to buy.
