Hi all,

I just bought a pre-owned 530i and have a question I couldn't find the answer to.

When I start my car, the air conditioning turns on automatically each time. Is there a way I can turn this off? I manually have to switch it off, but what I want is for it not to come on at all when I start the car.

Thanks!

It's automatic, can't change it, it's the just the way the car is...it'll take some getting used to

to the forum and congrats on your new (to you) e60.

Is the AUTO light on the center climate control dial, lit?

From the manual:

AUTO program
The AUTO program handles the
adjustment of air volume and air
distribution to the windshield and
side windows, in the direction of
the upper body and in the footwell.
It also adapts your instructions for the temperature
to outside influences throughout the year.
The cooling is switched on automatically with
the AUTO program. At the same time, a condensation
sensor controls the program in such
a way that window condensation is prevented
as much as possible.

Doesn't matter. It [the HVAC] is still going to always come on when he starts the car, whether it be Auto or manual mode.

I think I misread the OP.

The AC should default to the last setting before he shut off the car. The memory is stored in the key.

Well, my AC was OFF when I turned off the car. So when I come to turn on the ignition, why does the AC come on?

Dunno dude. Short of being there, it's tough to diagnose by internet. It could be a programming error? If your car is new, call your SA.

That's just the way it is. I can have mine turned off when I shut down the car, but when I restart it, the HVAC still comes on (at the lowest fan speed.) The only things that remain constant are whether or not you had the A/C compressor on and what stage you had the air circulation set to; recirculate, fresh, auto.

BMW just assumes everyone is rich and snooty and wants to be closed off from the rest of the world...hence they always assume you'll want to ride in a climate controlled vehicle!!!! i couldnt resist that remark!

Are you sure its the AC that comes on or just the fan coming on? Check the snowflake button.
