I do get DS Mode but this is happening more and more often now. I just have to shift it back into D and then back across to DS and it stays in DS after that with no issues.

Might get it booked in to be looked at, but I'm sure they will just say they couldn't replicate the issue!

Alot of the talk above about "never using 1st gear" is wrong at least for the LCI E60's with the sport automatic transmission. I don't know about '03-06's... But in my car for example, in Drive mode with the Sport button pushed (and in Sport mode with the selector moved to the left), the transmission ALWAYS shifts down to 1st gear at a dead stop. It never starts from 2nd gear, regardless how you depress the pedal. The only time these transmissions start in 2nd gear is in straight Drive mode without the sport button pushed.

Hi guys

Has anyone experienced this problem I've been having recently.
Every time I switch the car on (Gearbox in P), I take the gear shifter down to D and then across to DS. I would say 1 in every 4 times I do this, the car goes straight into M2.
I 1st thought I was knocking the shifter hence knocking it into M2, but after looking into it and trying a few times, this definetaly isn't the case.

Anyone else experience this?

(The car is a pre-lci 523i Auto)

Sag
I think BMW does this on purpose. It is so the car does the smooth shifting from 2nd. Once you put it into D/S and press the "SPORT" button it should automatically go into 1st gear. At least, that is how it is in my 2008 535i. I dunno about you guys.

Same with pre-LCI. DS uses 1st-5th, D uses 2nd-6th.

The problem he has is NOT normal.

When he moves his shifter across to DS AUTO mode the car moves into M2, manual 2nd gear, it never offers him the auto sport mode, its always thinking he has moved the shifter up or down to activate the manual override, which to me at least sounds like the switches are making contact without user input.

Yes I think it could potentially be a DIY because you would have to change/modify/replace the same parts as the people who have done the flappy paddles mod to their steering wheels, maybe check out the DIY post on flappy paddles retrofit ??

However, I wouldn't touch a thing if I had warranty like you have ?
